Anyone serving frozen chips, ice cream or fresh meat rarely thinks about the complex logistics web behind it. Frigo Group has been doing just that – since 1973. The Dutch family business grew from a single cold store to a full-service specialist in chilled and frozen logistics. With modern warehouses, smart road transport and daily scheduled services to France and other countries, Frigo Group monitors the temperature and quality of thousands of tonnes of food every year. From family-run cold store to total logistics companyFrigo Group once started with a modest freezer warehouse in Nieuw-Vennep, but today it manages several cold and dry warehouses in the Netherlands. Their teams combine product knowledge with 50 years of practical experience, making short lines of communication, ‘no-nonsense’ service and maximum transparency the norm. Customers do not have to switch between different parties: Frigo Group provides storage, order picking, customs handling as well as conditioned transport, nationally and internationally. Besides deep-freezing, they are increasingly focusing on +5°C refrigeration and even unconditioned general cargo. This makes Frigo Group a flexible partner for bakeries, meat processors, fish importers and food retailers who want their entire product range under one roof. Road transport: always on time, always at temperatureA solid cold chain does not stop at the warehouse door, which is precisely why Frigo Group has its own fleet of multi-temperature trucks for road transport. The trucks are equipped with real-time temperature monitoring and GPS tracking, so planners and clients alike can continuously see where the cargo is and the temperature in the cargo hold. Every day, the drivers drive shuttle trips between production sites, Frigo warehouses and end customers in the Benelux and Germany. Whether it concerns full trailer loads of fries or fine-meshed distribution of mixed pallets, the route planning is designed to minimise waiting times at docks. This saves fuel, avoids unnecessary CO₂ emissions and keeps goods in top condition for longer – sustainable logistics and lower costs all in one. Transport to France: every day from North Holland to the RhôneFrance is by far the most popular international destination in the Frigo network. Combinations depart daily for transport to France in the direction of Paris, Rouen and Lyon; en route, they often pick up loads in Belgium and Luxembourg to avoid empty kilometres. The tautliners contain steel and machinery, while the refrigerated trailers are filled with patisserie, meat products and ready meals. Thanks to this fixed corridor, Frigo Group can guarantee tight cut-off times and groupage down to pallet level is possible, ideal for smaller volumes. The drivers know French regulations like the back of their hand – from ZPPAU environmental zones to Sunday driving bans. Combined with French- and English-speaking customer service, communication with local recipients runs smoothly, which is often one less worry for Dutch exporters. Innovation, quality and environmentThe company continuously invests in WMS and TMS software, allowing customers to track stocks, batch numbers and track-&-trace in real time via a dedicated portal. What is new is the use of AI-based route optimisation, which Frigo Group says will reduce empty mileage by 7% by 2024. In addition, part of the warehouse runs on green electricity from solar panels, and the first trucks are now running on HVO diesel. Frigo Group does not lag behind in terms of certification either: BRCGS, IFS Logistics and SKAL-bio (for organic products) are standard, while ADR-certified trailers are available for conditioned chemical loads. In this way, the company combines time-honoured Dutch commercial spirit with modern sustainability requirements. |
